An excellent place
The figures speak for themselves
The province of Modena is located in the centre of Emilia Romagna and is famous throughout the world for Ferrari and Maserati sports cars, Sassuolo ceramic tiles, Parmigiano Reggiano cheese and balsamic vinegar, the opera singer Pavarotti and the chef Massimo Bottura who, in January 2011, took the “GrandPrix de l'Art de la Cuisine” award, presented by the International Academy of Gastronomy in Paris to the world’s best chefs. But these are not the province’s only strong points. Modena is in fact one of Europe’s most progressive provinces, with a per capita GDP of 32,000 euro. We export goods worth over 9 billion euro to 183 different countries. We have approx. 68,000 operating companies, one every ten inhabitants: 22,000 are manufacturing firms, 36,000 are trading and service concerns and almost 10,000 are engaged in agriculture.

Orderly growth
Our companies are located in the so-called “artisan and industrial districts”, all of which are equipped with efficient services and infrastructures. During the last 40 years, land lots have been assigned at very advantageous prices by the local authorities and the Ministry of Economic Development. Besides sustaining business growth, the district policy ensures an orderly balance between the city, where people live and the industrial areas, where they work.

The company is served
We look after our companies. We help them grow and provide them with whatever they need: services, information and assistance. Institutions, business associations, consortiums, banks and company service centres have been operating in our area for many years now.
A major role in protecting the living conditions of the less-affluent members of our society is played by the Modena cooperatives, lead players since the 19th century as regards the local economy and business. There are over 800 cooperatives in the province, employing nearly 30,000 people. These cooperatives work in various sectors, from sales distribution to building, agriculture and personal services.
The craftsmen of yesteryear…
Notwithstanding our love of machinery and technology, we have not lost the taste for making things by hand, with patience, like once upon a time. The province of Modena counts more than 300 artistic, traditional and restoration workshops. Our craftsmen preserve the methods of the past, using prized materials and produce top-quality products, from violins to balsamic vinegar casks. They are skilled restorers of paintings, books, wood, fabrics and marble.
…and of today
We have more than 22 thousand artisan firms, about one third of the total. They make both finished products and, as outsourcers, produce parts and components and perform machining operations in the fields of mechanical engineering, plastics, electronics, textiles and biomedical products. Strongly specialised and technologically advanced, they represent reliable partners for leading international companies, able to provide technical solutions to cater to all requirements.
